A YOUNG BOY WITH AUTISM AND AN ARTIST SHARE THEIR SKETCHBOOKS
Sorry, this is no longer in print, but sometimes used copies come up on amazon.com
Published by the AAPC Publishing Company in 2006, we regret to inform you that Sundays with Matthew is no longer in print, but some used copies can still be found online.
I first met Matthew in 2001 through the Wisconsin Early Autism Program (WEAP). They lost their funding so my position went from paid therapist to volunteer, which gave me the freedom to do art therapy with Matthew more often.
Drawing ideas and thoughs out on paper helped Matthew discuss things, and he enjoyed drawing as much as me, so sketchbooks became a regular part of our time together, and we decided to make a book out of it.
Thanks to the AAPC, (Autism Asperger Publishing Company), this little hardcover book became a reality and hit the shelves of our local Barnes & Noble.
I think kids on the spectrum can be highly creative, and our hopes with this book were to inspire others to pick up a sketchbook and talk.

The creative use of art in this memorable book provides an intriguing glance in to the mind of a child with an autism spectrum disorder as he perceives and explores the world around him. His personal point of view reflects a broad expression and depth of thought that should be shared with all children and adults as they learn to relate to children with ASD."
Jill Hudson, author of Cabins, Canoes and Campfires: Guidelines for Establishing a Camp for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders
"Sweet... and from the heart... this story is a must-have for every elementary school! It teaches kids to accept each other and embrace individuality. Matthew's drawings add a special touch to this unique book while revealing his rich inner life."
